RAW, no belt even, with a freaking hook grip...AND... 968LB DEADLIFT @ in 242lb weight class weighing 103kg(Think that's like 227lbs) after a 858lb squat and 495lb bench ... Dude has the sickest total and him and Calier Woolman (USA) are going face to face in few eeks which will be interesting as Calier beat him at boss of bosses (I think) but IDK if he can pull this off... Belkin attempted 1,016 lbs for third attempt and apparently just missed it...Havent seen video yet just going by BARBEND article.. So TOTALED 2,321lbs at just over 220lbs...Yes he competed in 242 but prob could of sucked 7lbs easy unless he already tried and came as close as he could... No words...

I tried hook grip for a while. It just hurts, guess I'm a wuss that way. Maybe I'll keep trying it. Went back to double over-hand as of late. I'll have to look this guy up on youtube.
 
Not a fan really after looking at his vids. Only found sumo with straps. Could you post a link to him doing conventional raw with hook-grip?. Just saw you haven't seen videos of it yet. Any videos of him doing conventional dead lift though?. With hook grip?.
 
Hey, when you guy's speak of "hook" grip, do you mean with one hand facing the body, overhand, and the other"opposite...? Which, if so, I've known thru the years to be called "mixed" grip...? Or is it something entirely different..?

I'm not a full on powerlifter, but do, and have on many occasions do the powerlifting moves, well deadlift, I think k we all Bench press, a d maybe all Squat...?

But with regards to your conversation, just wondering if that's what it refers to, "mixed" rather than both overhand.

I watched him compete not too long ago. I had no idea who he was until after the comp. He is a incredible athlete.

Kins he does sumo in meets but like his rival he can still pull conventional pretty fkn heavy... He doesnt use straps in meets obviously just plain ole hook grip...I think some guys use straps because deadlift bars WILL rip your calluses off very often when going heavy and if grips not an issue you can overload... I NEVER tried hook I assumed its take me to long to adapt but if I could go back in time I would... Over under creates imbalances and I can even seee diff in sides of my back..

Keep in mind whetehr you dont like sumo or not its powerlifting you can pick any stance or grip thats legal... Now remmeber this same guy SQUATS 838 and BENCHED 495 RAW...
 
Its overhand but you put thumb under and reach fingers OVER to grab it using your thumb like a hook I guess... Its cool cause you get the positives of reg grip but dont slip(if you train with it constantly) Its feels weird for me so i tried once then fig fk it
 
[MENTION=71]Donkeykong[/MENTION], yeah that's the reason I don't do alternate grip because you can injure yourself. I like double overhand or hook grip. Double overhand can strengthen your grip, and hook grip you don't really have to rely on grip strength as much. You won't get as many callouses if you use enough chalk. The bar should be further down on the fingers. Callouses won't rip open or form as much if the bar is already down lower in the finger instead of slipping down during the lift.

As far as the hook grip goes, you lay the middle finger on top of the thumbnail as you wrap your hands around the bar and let the bar settle into the bottom of the "hook" made by the fingers. So you put your thumb around the bar and your middle finger pushes against the thumbnail. So when you lift most of the pressure in pushing against the thumb. Sorry, I'm not good at explaining things in detail. Don't get double overhand and hook grip mixed up. They aren't the same thing.

Three different things, Double Overhand, Alternate, and Hook.

Sorry, I just don't like the Sumo dead-lift. Not saying the kid isn't super strong. I just prefer the regular conventional dead-lift. One of my favorite dead lifters is Eddie Hall. I don't really follow power-lifting or anything though. Somewhat I do. I'll tell you what though I do considering power-lifting and Word's Strongest man sports. Bodybuilding though, it's more of a beauty contest. No doubt bodybuilders work extremely hard to be pretty. I just can't call it a sport with a straight face.
 
yes i often warmup double overhand until I reach 500 or so then switch it to over under... Hook grip I didnt even know what it was till I saw OlY lifters doing them then saw Calier Woolman pulling 900plus at 220 weight class ... He also pulled over 800 for reps conventional and was ahead of YURY but not anymore... I also dont think Woolman has him beat in squat and bench but I could be wrong...I know they both beat Ed Coans Total record... Since Woolmans from the US Im pulling for him to beat Yury but they are both freaks lifting that much raw and in the 220-242 class(think they both were in 220s couple months back then Yury didnt make 220 this last meet , but Woolman was pulling 900 or close in the 198's at one point I think...)

Check Out BENNI's Magnusson 1100(OR SOMETHING RIDIC)(Strongmna and POWERLIFTER) dead record...beats Eddie ansd NO STRAPS or SUIT... Sumo Works slighlty diff muscles at diff parts but if you watch most PL they may start sumo but many end up changing to conv or are good at both...If your strong your strong... Wityh me I learned sumo because my older brother was a PRICK and only gave me about 2 tries conventional before I got yelled at for form and had me try sumo so I was able to keep back arched better... So Since thats how I leraned I stayed but Ive done 585x1 conv after 3-4 weeks of conv easy just that never like rounded back and like I said I'd need to work form to prevent that... Some body types just do better,,,\ BUT EVERY 1000lb PLUS dead has been conventional so far... Were about to see sumo but how I look at it ... Your using a wider stance and closer grip... Not much diff from a guy benching with a super wide grip or a close stance guy like DR.SQUAT doing 1000lbs ass to floor vs a traditional pl squat super wide just getting .5" below parallel I like BOTh so I dont mind when people pick on sumo lol

Ed COAN used to pull conv. then right before meet start pulling sumo... Then some pull sumo but not super wide... Like Ill go to grip marks with shins where as some go from plate to plate like doing splits lol... I still have a good back and traps and don't hardly do any hypertrophy work anymore...I should but I get lazy go in and dead maybe 3reps of rows for some sets shrugs and overload... AFTER this meet Im doing some bodybuilding to try and get my leg size back up and arms as well lol...
 
I guess since I never do sumo I find it harder than conv. I pull way better conv
