What’s the most important part of any workout? Consistency! You have to commit to the goal and make sure you never miss a day, since each exercise is as important as the next, from upper body exercises all the way to the most dreaded and excruciating leg days. Miss one day and it all goes to waste. Still not convinced? That’s where we come in.Here are 7 reasons for why you should never even consider missing leg day.
You’re going to look Funny:
They're not denying it; there are a good number of people who start working out to look better physically. Now this may seem funny right now, but we’ve all seen guys with huge upper bodies but skinny legs; everything about them looks so disproportionate, and instead of "looking better," they end up doing the exact opposite. And everyone has surely seen the memes of guys with no lower body strength just because they skipped leg day. Face it, if you miss leg day, you're going to end up looking ridiculous, and it'll be pretty embarrassing. Remember: your arms aren't the only muscles you should be working on because we can see your legs too.
Lesser Risk of Injury:
Find it hard to believe that lower body strength could save you from injuries? Well then here's some fresh perspective for you, my friend. If your legs can’t support you, how do you plan on doing all your other exercises or how do you even imagine getting any cardio done at all. A weak lower body makes you prone to more injuries such as tears and other muscle damage and can keep you out of the game for a while.
More Calories Lost:
Everyone knows that when trying to lose weight, the legs are the main targets. The larger the muscle you’re working on, the more energy your body requires. Greater energy requirements increase your body’s metabolism; another benefit of leg day.Due toan increase in metabolism, your body burns more calories.Missing leg day would mean the return of unhealthy calories and ruin all the hard work done to keep those excess calories out.
Better Performance in Sports:
With greater lower body strength comes more power and with greater power comes the ability to run longer, faster, have better stamina and therefore be able to excel in almost all kinds of sports. All the main sports we know of-swimming, rugby, football, cricket, and tennis- each and every one of them requires great lower body strength. If you keep exercising your legs, you’re increasing your chances of becoming a better athlete. Miss leg day and you’re going to be slow, weak, and the last one is chosen on the team if you're chosen at all that is.
It Will Affect Your Entire Body:
Leg day isn’t just for your legs; it affects your entire body in one way or the other too. Exercise affecting your legs also rubs off on other parts of your body as well, thereby strengthening them too without you even realizing it. Take deadlifts for example. They’re primarily designed for lower body muscles, but they also help form a thicker torso, a stronger upper back, and firmer shoulders. So in a way, missing leg day not only means losing progress on your lower body muscles but also makes you lose progress all over.
You’re Lowering Your Muscle-Building Hormones:
There was a research published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology which explains that when men are performing heavy workouts, there is an increase in their level of testosterone. If you’re wondering why this increase in testosterone is a good thing, here’s why; because it helps them lose weight, helps them take on more challenging exercises, makes them more energetic for their workout routine, and lastly, it greatly helps them gain muscle mass. Miss leg day and you’re missing a great opportunity to lose that fat.
It Will Take Longer to Build Muscle:
Now that you’ve missed a day of working out, you're behind your schedule, and it will obviously take you longer to lose fat and build muscle in its place. This not only means your behind your plan but also that now you’ll have to work twice as hard to make up for it, thereby putting extra effort on your body. And since you missed leg day, there isn’t any guarantee your body will be able to take the strain of all the extra workload, and you will probably increase your chances of injuries when working out with weak legs.
Now that you know why you shouldn't miss leg day bet you'll think twice before doing anything like that, right? Because if you’re missing leg day, we hope you see what a huge mistake you’re doing.
