All bodybuilders face this question at least once during their fitness journey: “Whether to use Steroids or keep it natural?” And everybody chooses one path based on whatever their fitness goals are. So it should be no surprise if a person who just started lifting, gains more muscles than you in less than half the time it took you. Nor should you get influenced by others so quickly and get into steroids without evaluating their pros and cons.


Why Bodybuilders Use Steroids?


Bodybuilders aspire to build muscle size while being as lean as it is humanly possible. Anabolic Steroids help them achieve this objective by enhancing muscular growth to the extent that cannot be achieved naturally by solely relying on Mother Nature. Professional bodybuilders build muscle size and density by taking 100+ times more testosterone than is produced in an average body so their rapid gain in muscles should come as no surprise.

Not only is it important for bodybuilders to build muscles but they also aim for a lean body structure such that their body fat is reduced to one digit. Muscle size becomes least important if they are covered with layers of fat, hence professional bodybuilder diet before contests. But once all fat is lost, it is harder to maintain muscle size because of the human body’s natural survival functions. At this point, Bodybuilder’s takes anabolic drugs to maintain their muscular size while also working on being lean.


Other than the muscle building steroids, Bodybuilders also take drugs for rapid breakdown of fat. It is common for professionals to lose around 20 pounds of fat in just a few days because of these drugs.


Advantages of Steroids:


Athletes and professional bodybuilders use steroids to gain an ‘edge’ over their competitors. Combined with physical training, steroids can do wonders to the body in no time. Some of the advantages of Steroids are:


  • Increase Body Growth
Bodybuilders, who are looking for fast growth in muscle size use steroids in the form testosterone to stimulate increased protein synthesis in the body and to keep it in an anabolic (muscle building) state. Research on groups of athletes showed that people who take only steroids have more muscle growth than people who steroid rely only on physical exercise. However, most professionals combine physical activity with steroid use to gain maximum results.


  • Increase Strength and Stamina
Not only do steroids increase muscle size but also increase the stamina and strength of bodybuilders as they show increased activity in exercises such as bench presses, lifting and cycling. Thus, steroids enhance performance along with making the body look physically fit.



  • Increase rate of healing
Use of steroids increases the rate of recovery of muscles which is vital for athletes and bodybuilders to maintain consistency in training.



  • Boosts self-esteem
Last, but not the least, the main goal of most fitness fanatics is to look physically appealing. Steroids help people achieve that goal without putting in a lot of effort and saves both energy and time.


Disadvantages of Steroids:
Although Steroids seem like a shortcut towards your fitness goal, it is irresponsible to look only at the advantages. Before you make a decision, it is important to evaluate both sides. Some of the cons of steroid use are:



  • Effects on mood
Steroids are known to cause aggression and depression in individuals. This is because steroids harm the central Nervous system which can lead to psychosis. Furthermore, individuals become less sexually active due to a decrease in sex drive which also decreases the general wellbeing of the individual.



  • Increase in risk of cardiovascular diseases
Steroids in the form of testosterone interfere with the normal functioning of the heart by increasing resting blood pressure and reducing healthy cholesterol levels. This, in turn, increases the risk of heart failure, blockage of blood vessels and other heart-related issues.



  • Hormone-related issues
Exogenous testosterone has a negative impact on the hormonal balance of individuals and causes various problems. In males, the sperm count and testicle size decreases which may cause infertility. Also, there is an increased risk of prostate or breast cancer. In females, steroids interfere with the menstrual cycle which leads to increased facial hair growth, acne, a deeper voice and clitoris expansion. In teenagers, there is stunted growth and puberty may be fast-tracked due to the use of steroid.


Other Harms
If proper care is not taken, the risk of HIV and hepatitis B and C increases due to needle sharing. Also, kidney failure, cancer and liver diseases can also be caused by excessive steroid abuse. Furthermore, misuse or uncontrolled use causes muscle tearing, problems in joints, nose bleeding and other injuries.
The decision between natural bodybuilding and use of steroids may be difficult but by weighing the pros and cons and comparing those with your required results can make a choice much easier. No matter what your choice, always remember consistency and commitment always pay and that is what you should aim for!
 
Needle sharing bodybuilders we are once again reduced too junkies by an ignorant author. I've never once seen a bodybuilder use a needle that wasn't brand new .

Nor have I. But I've seen plenty of dumbasses who call themselves bodybuilders reusing and using less than hygienic practices. Those are the tools that give us a bad name
