Repealing the NFA would mean that short barreled rifles, suppressors, and machine guns could be legally owned by anyone able to pass the standard NICS background check without additional licensing or tax stamps.
there's still the Hughes Amendment of the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986. So we still couldn't purchase machine guns built after 1986 but all those before would become free game without an FFL license.
