I had one of those old Samsung slide phones myself until 4 years ago when it finally died then got a Samsung S4. Now have the iPhone 8.

You can get a basic Android smartphone or a used iPhone 6 for a good price to get started.

He should definitely go with an iPhone since he’s never had a smartphone, their designed to be more user friendly for beginners.

Yep iPhone 6 is good and Apple still supports that model. Latest iOS works too. Can find clean used iPhone 6's on ebay for whatever carrier you are currently using.

You can use the same cases and screen protector for the 6-7 and 8 also. If he wanted to get a new one Sprint is offering the 10 for free with a contract. I’m not sure how good Sprint is though, I have Verizon. Their the best service hands down but a little pricey with the unlimited data plan. The iPhone 7 and up are also waterproof which is nice.
 
Wow that’s nuts they wouldn’t let you send funds, I thought you might of used them often. Makes one wonder how a business stays afloat turning people away.

Its a huge hassle any more. BitCoin is great but the only way that I can really fund it is through Western Union or MG....for I'm frickin' stuck.
