Seems like there's no more "hardcore" gyms around anymore at least not where I live. I
won't name the place where i started training at and also met the MotorCity Muscle Machine at. It was a small gym that was hot as shit in the summer time because the place didn't have a/c and only 1 or 2 ceiling fans and in the winter time it would be freezing in the place because the owner barely had the heat on
When the dumbbells would break the owner would weld them back together. There was nothing special about the gym but all the hardcore bodybuilders in the area would train there instead of at the local Powerhouse Gym. The place is long gone now as are the few Powerhouse gyms that were in the area. All there is now are a bunch Any time fitness gyms and a YMCA.

Hardcore gyms are a dying breed it seems and opening one is fraught with risk due to astronomical liability insurance requirements and such. There are really none in my area but however there's a PowerHouse that's darn close to a hardcore gym as there are many monsters that train there.

The gym I go to is decent and has a lot of great equipment that will please many a powerlifter. Sleds, tires, lifting logs etc.

What... You don't like Planet Fitness...?? , ya Lunk....!

Isn't Detroit Barbell still around (it's predominantly PowerLifting, but that's hardcore.

I just joined a Brand New PowerHouse for a few months to check out brand spanking new Hammer Strength , & a histmof other very nice equipment , "All" brand new..!

There is a Hardcore place out in Clinton Township I belong
24 hour good variety , and about as hardcore as it comes , but off the Beaten Path for me so I'm cancelling b4 next payment is due. John Simmons does coaching there, along with another Pro (Female ) and I think the owner.

Bahahaha @ Planet Fitness

PowerHouse gyms are good but they are dwindling and you must be lucky to join a new one. Planet Fitness is my 2nd gym and it has one good thing...pizza mondays!

Think I might have trained at that gym a few yrs ago that you're talking about in Clinton township near Lakeside mall. The place I train at where i live know is nice, similar to a Powerhouse Gym. But NOTHING like the place I was referring too in my initial post. Remember "Big Paul" throwing up massive amounts of weight. In the summer it would be cooler outside than it would be inside of the place. And yeah Detroit Barbell is still around but like you mentioned it's a power lifting gym, think Clay Brandenburg is still the owner. He's another beast that used to work out at the gym I was referring too, he owned a lot of power lifting records..

I personally saw Clay bench over 900 lbs , he was one.of the strongest Kat's, if not "The" strongest guy in our State.

The gym your referring is now a Family DOLLAR

There are a few around here. One is "sort of" "invite only", you must have a sit down with owner and he decides whether or not you can join. Keep meaning to look into it more but I do like my cardio equipment. It's who you know though or you gotta ask around. Not like a commercial gym where anyone can just walk in.

Why not go to a Planet Fitness for cardio days (for a cheap $10 a month) and go hard and heavy at that gym you mentioned?

Yeah I've actually thought about that a few times. I just don't like the auto-draft which I believe is a requirement at that place.

I have a money market account that I use for autopay for my PF membership I use for cardio days and have no problem with that as it is easy to cancel should there a problem come up. To me $10 a month auto-pay isn't a big problem.

Yeah he was a beast, I know at one time he held almost all of the state records. After they turned the place into a Family Dollar i went in there just to look at it and think about what the place used to be. Lots of good memories

Im near jupiter in fl, and stuck goin to la shitness...listen to the scrawny kids talk about their eyebrow waxing appointments, and the old women with the duck lips. Its awful..but can get it done. I miss the clangin and bangin of real weights, fuckin chalk all over the floor..people actually squatting more than 135 and with depth. A real fuckin gym. Problem is the sissys or corporate housewives complain about all that around here, so there is none

Gene Rychlak is the first man to bench press 900 lb (409.09 kg). Gene Rychlak is the first man to bench press over 1000 lb with a lift of 1004 lb (456.36 kg) in November. Scot Mendelson presses 1008 lb (458.18 kg) (February 18) in a powerlifting exhibition called FIT EXPO in Pasadena, CA

Now mind you , these are "Big" overweight dudes & they use Bench Shirts.., but still....! Crazy..

When Clay was doing it , he was practicing for a few moves with wood blocks (2x4's ) on his Chest , and I don't remember if he had a Shirt on..?? But I would think yes..

Been 11-12 years or more

The current world bench press champion is Ryan Kennelly, who pressed 1075 lbs (487.6 kg) in November 8, 2008. He has gradually improved his world best mark after beating the previous holder of the record Gene Rychlak Jr who pressed 1010 lbs (458.1 kg) in 2006

The heaviest "raw" bench press is 335 kg (738.5lbs) by Russian Kirill Sarychev on November 22, 2015. He achieved this feat using wrist wraps. To be considered raw, no bench shirts are allowed; however, wrist wraps, singlets and belts are allowed. This effort beat the previous record of 722 lbs (327.5 kg) by Eric Spoto achieved in 2013 (see video).

Duck Lips... ! Had me rolling, I know just what he means & we have our share or skinny teenager's getting eyebrow waxing , or worse I suppose , just tonight I had to do it, just when I was leaving the locker room.after Training, had to get my shit out & peel my wet shirt off to throw a dry one on. These squirts were gathering around by the mirror & this one had a spray bottle with a concoction in it, I heard him say to the other squirts something to the effect of has spearmint oil & this, & that , I immediately took advantage if that & said "I thought i smelled something girly" & chuckled , looked at the kid & said I'm juzt teasing , tapped (lighly back handed him on the midsection in Gest " he took it nicely, & not too serious. We all laughed..!
