Hey guys. Someone pretty close to me just went and had bloodwork done after not having it done for years. I finally had convinced her to go get bloodwork and get a full physical. She’s overweight. About 5’2 240lbs ! She’s never really been to the gym. Well long story short she got her bloodwork back and most everything was within range except for cholesterol, liver enzymes slightly elivated and blood sugar which was not far off from being within diabetic range. She’s pretty much addicted to sweets but I think after her seeing her bloodwork it scared her enough to where she finally started in the gym. My questions are what are some good foods for her and workout routines to help get her blood sugar down, stop craving as much sweets and start loosing some weight. I had her start slow on the treadmill so far. Any suggestions from my brothers on here would be greatly appreciated!

Keto would be a decent place to start to help her with insulin sensitivity, and honeslty clean healthy foods. I would push too hard on training or cardio until some of that weight came off. Sticking to keto will also help develop discipline..easy to follow but sucks when it starts. Best keto i have seen was higher protein, moderate fats

Look at my thread in the supplements section I just posted. This compound would be great for her.

^this.
I agree if you can stick to keto then you can do anything in the gym. Just because discipline With diet is a million times harder than hitting the gym.
I’ve tried keto. Shits hard I stuck with it for a month lol

What they said ^ .
Get her to do keto or TKD. Do NOT let her jump on a “low carb” diet with tons of fat.

A keto 20/50/30 c/p/f diet would be amazing.

Then add the supplement I put in my other thread at 4 caps a day.

As already mentioned in a comment, the Keto style way of eating is perfect for her to start off making significant change with. She pretty much needs to stop investing carbs, and start utilizing fat as her energy source (Ketosis). She needs to change her eating, and also implement some fasting. She can accomplish those things to begin with without even going to the gym.
Obesity is no joke. She has a lot of work to do on restructuring her eating and lifestyle patterns in general — that’s the bottom line of it for her. 240lbs at 5’2 is from a pattern of bad/undisciplined choices over a loooooong period of time.

Don't push her too hard about what you want her to eat. It's awesome she is in the gym. Have her change her diet very slowly and not all at once.

I wouldn't start her on Keto right away. First thing is to change her eating habits without cheating. If she's on Keto and eating junk when you're not around, she'll put on more weight. She needs to prove that she can drop the sweets. Get her to do that, reduce the portion size of her meals, spread them out throughout the day for a start. When she proves that she can stick to the diet changes for a couple of months, then I would introduce Keto.

She needs to see a nutritionist!!! Nothing will help her unless she hears it from a pro, trust me!!! My girl was the same way, fucking she lives with a pro with diet and she never listened, it got so bad, she was the same way, not that big but unhealthy!! She had high blood pressure and her sugar levels resting were high as high and headed to be a diabetic, then she found out her insurance covered a nutritionalist and she made an appointment. Well it’s been 7 months and she totally turned her eating around and is a life style now not a diet, diets don’t fucking work!! She needs to change her life, my girl is down 42pounds and feels great, but she changed everything over time, and it can be done cause she is the most stubborn person I’ve met!! Get her ass professional help, nothing else will work, and she needs will power!!!

Roc if I had to live with her a person who ate icecream pints and McDonald’s and stuff, yet stayed ripped, I’d have trouble sticking to a good diet too lol.

You made a great point my friend, that’s why I keep all that stuff in my man cave now, I have a full fridge with freezer and keep all junk food away from her eyes. I changed my way of eating in front of her too, she understands my diet but nobody needs to hold Ben and Jerry’s in front of someone while dieting.

Lol I would pay good money to shadow a day in the life of Roc. You are clearly one of those mystical “true pro bodybuilders” and live the life.

If I find out you are 20% bodyfat though my dreams will be crushed.

There are lots of options for her IMO. Its it definitely going to a journey for her and at times she will struggle but be her coach through this and you will very proud.

From some of the posts above some members have suggested keto as a possible method and there are many other diet fads as well, mediterranean, Atkins, paleo, the zone, etc . Those are all great diets but for some but they don't always work for certain people. I hate for her to adopt a plan and have her get discouraged because of it not working. I believe that simply just changing her diet in making it clean would make a drastic difference in her case....keep it as simple as possible right now. From your details cutting back on sugar IMO would make the biggest difference and portion control as well. Cut out processed and fast foods....I'm am sure she knows what is healthy and what isn't. The hardest part will be for her to stay on track.

The hardest part of any journey is those first few steps. She just needs to keep moving in the right direction and as she sees improvement in the mirror her dedication should get stronger.

Yes sir ! What’s everyone’s opinion about metformin for someone with high glucose levels ??
