So I have a friend that is 37, never done any kind of gear, and was having some symptoms of low test. I suggested that he go to his Dr and get his test levels checked which he did but now, weeks later, the Dr wants him to come back in to be tested again. He's fed up at this point and is asking me for suggestions as where to start with TRT. Are there any topical or sprays that are worth a damn? He doesn't really want to go the injectable route but will if he has to. Test E at 250mg a week is what I suggested. Any thoughts or info would be much appreciated.

Current TRT patient at 100mg/wk.....when not cycling. Androgel is a topical agent if ya can find it and it can be pricey. You most likely will have to go international for that though and most Rx s for that require a prior authorization.

Most Dr. Prescribe test cyp. I started at 200mg per week. My test levels were at 300. Depending if he has insurance will depend on what is considered low t .

Test E at 250mg a week?. Really? Tell him to ask his doctor more questions. The doctor isn't just going to throw him on testosterone for the rest of his life at 37 years old if he doesn't have to. Especially after just a single blood test. Just because he has symptoms that might be similar to low test doesn't mean that is the problem. It could be something else entirely. These things take time. Testosterone levels normal ebb and flow. They aren't consistently at one level. My suggestion is tell him to have some patience. If he wants to look more deeply into it, get a referral to an endocrinologist. Still though, it doesn't sound as if it's definite that the guy has low testosterone. Wait on his PCP and see what they say. The first defense or option that he is gonna have and that's IF he has low testosterone is androgel. Doctors like that better because you get the stable blood levels because you apply it every night. Anyway, just wait and tell your young friend to have patience.

I initially was placed on Androgel but was taken off and had to go the injectable route due to the insurance not covering the Rx. Most insurance plans require a prior auth for most topical gels.

Oh I know. It took something like 3 weeks for me to be able to get the PA approved. Sucks because it's not the doctors decision. It's the insurance company second guessing the doctor. I switched to IM when I switched doctors. My test cyp is actually cheaper without using insurance. The gel is a great option though, for a lot of guys. A lot of things require a PA. My ED drugs require one. Pretty sure MRI also requires a PA with my plan.

Sorry for the late response guys. Work got busy after I posted. So I talked with him yesterday and he's gonna go back to the doc for the second test, however, he's hellbent on trying some kind of test booster in the meantime to see if it will help.

Something OTC?

I'm sorry....I didn't make myself clear. Something legal? The reason I am asking if he is gonna start TRT on his own what would be the point of going back to the endo doc and have a retest?

Yeah something legal and he won't start it until after his second test. I told him to just wait it out but I think he's so fed up with his sex life being effected that he's willing to do anything at this point.

You can't just go and diagnose yourself. Also, the doctor can't diagnose you from one single blood test. The proper diagnose is essential. Before an endocrinologist puts you on TRT they will set you up with an MRI to check for a pituitary tumor. That's especially relevant if you haven't abused AAS or anything to cause your potential hypogonadism. At this point in your friends diagnosis though, it's still early and you don't know if he even has low testosterone. I mean it could be anything from Vitamin D deficiency to stress.

I completely agree with you and have stated all of this to him. Hopefully he will go through the entire process so that they can nail down exactly what's causing the issue.

.....had to go through that as well. Its a long test test and you feel so claustrophobic.
