Training Through Plateaus

Plateaus hit all of us, even when gear is dialed, diet is tight, and training feels consistent. There’s this weird point where everything is technically “right,” but progress slows down and you start questioning if you’re pushing hard enough or just spinning your wheels. What I’ve noticed is that half the battle is learning when your body needs more intensity and when it just needs smarter structure.

For me, switching up rep ranges, adjusting tempo, or even changing exercise order has made a bigger impact than constantly chasing heavier weight. Enhanced or not, you can’t brute force your way through every stall. Recovery, sleep, hydration, nutrient timing, and stress all creep into the mix. Sometimes the plateau isn’t in the gym at all, it’s in the lifestyle surrounding it.

Gear makes the ceiling higher, but it doesn’t remove the need to actually listen to your body. That’s been one of the biggest lessons I’ve been dialing in this past year. Progress hits different when everything finally lines up.

What adjustments have helped you guys break through plateaus?

Do you switch movements or just push harder on the ones you’re already doing?

Has recovery ever been the key for you instead of more volume?

What mental shifts helped you get out of a slump and start progressing again?

donuts

Do you switch movements
of course. once it gets stale and you can't progress move to something else. when you come back to it, you go right by where you were stuck at.

yes. that was one of the first adjustments the coach I worked with made. prioritize sleep. cut down the volume.
