Stop taking metformin

So, I just read this about metformin:

http://xbodyconcepts.com/metformin-and-muscle-growth/

I’ve confirmed what they say a few different places.
I thought it was great; but studies confirm these negative effects are true.

I’ll see if berberine is really worth shit; I doubt it is.

I wouldn't take it!! I read enough and witnessed sides it causes in type 2 diabetes.
Something alot of guys need to know is thyroid, and cortisol all play a role in regulation of glucose and insulin etc....
I remember someone posting they had type 2 diabetes symtoms and later saw they had been using Cytadren.... somethings not worth it.
I use thyroid support preferably t4 with hgh but not using metformin. My glucose and A1C are sound!!!

“I wouldn’t take it!”

Are you referring to metformin or Berberine?

Berberine looks like it would be handy with your higher carb meals, as long as you didn’t take it around workouts.

Here’s a short article on why you might want to take Berberine:

And reasons why you shouldn’t:

If you guys actually read the article, these “so-called” negative effects shouldn’t affect steroid users. I’ve been using it regularly for about a year now in moderate doses (2000-2500mg) and haven’t looked better than I do now in the past 5-6 years. This one “study” that the article mentions isn’t even cited (a huge no-no in the medical community) so I’d take the whole article with a grain of salt. Without cited references from peer reviewed studies, it should not be taken seriously. Y’all can’t be that naive, can you? This “study” could’ve been someone’s next door neighbor’s cable man’s best friend for all we know.

To each their own. I’d say if you were on the fence, try it yourself rather than listen to one guy on the Internet (because we all know everything on the internet is true lol). I feel that’s it’s the one compound that took my physique to another level this past year.

I don’t think you’re attacking me personally, but just to be clear:

This isn’t one guy saying this. Multiple sites with studies cited are stating metformin reduces the number of androgen receptors AND lowers testosterone. I read those studies and those articles before posting this. This article was the most concise, that’s why I picked it. Metformin + testosterone in google will give you lots of studies and articles.

Lowered testosterone we don’t care about ( probably), but reducing the number of androgen receptors: how do you not see THAT as a problem for us?

I’ve been using metformin at 1000-2500 a day for over 30 days too; no sides, but I believe it could be impacting growth or could based on studies.

Here are the relevant studies that are a problem for us, IMO:

No, not attacking you at all, just questioning the studies. There is a huge difference in controlled studies vs real world application. This goes for everything across the board, not just anabolics and/or metformin. I’ve been at this for 2 decades dating back to the late 90’s when I was doing oral cycles only because I was young and stupid. I started pinning about a decade ago and have been a member on OLM since that time. A lot of old school guys here probably know me from those days as I was very active and always ran logs with pics and was sort of a tester for the late Kuda (he even had my pics on his website modeling his clothing line lol) I have a pretty descent physique I’d say without tooting my own horn. I can tell you this, since adding met to my regimine, I’ve maintained all my muscle while I leaned out significantly. I’m not wanting to be a mass monster by any means (I’m naturally 160lbs), and I like to stay around the 200lbs mark at 5’10” and I’d say I’m around 8-9% bf without hard dieting. I attribute this to metformin as it’s the only thing I’ve changed this past year. Take the studies for what they are but I can tell you with conviction that the stuff works, at least for me.

Honestly what I’d like to know would be how people like you or I could get bloodwork showing the effect on androgen receptors; I’m assuming that’s impossible. There isn’t any blood work that I can think of that would show how significant an impact metformin has on receptors.

And, fwiw, what about if we take l-carnatine; which increases them? I take like 4 grams of that a day, maybe that neutralizes the issue?

I hate the lack of resources we have to really find this shit out.
Berberine has the same issues; stunts muscle growth.

Because of Alot of knowledge u have on it I still am waiting for a chance to possibly try it.
It seems guys have gotten good results from it. What would be considered a long enough time being on to have to continue to need to take it??? That is my concern, needing to have to use it.

The diarrhea is a given when starting out. I always recommend guys starting at 1000 split 500/500 breakfast and dinner. Then increase to 1500 (500 per meal) and working up to 2000-2500. When I first started, it was bad! I mean, bad bad as in squirts out my ass for the first week. It took 3-4 weeks to truly get past all gastro issues but I know most guys quit before then, not really giving met a fair shake. It was/is a game changer for me as I’m pretty laxed on my diet and use the weekends to carb up and cheat yet I don’t gain any fat.

FYI, for anybody actually following this, my conclusion on Berberine after a ton of reading is it’s not a good idea. Decreases protein synthesis and encourages muscle wasting.
Fuck.

Metformin has confirmed issues with reducing the number of androgen receptors; my question is what supplement or drug INCREASES the number of androgen receptors?

I still have a stash of pharm grade metformin. I took it for 2 days 2 years ago and went hypo bad. Scared the shit out of me and my wife was furious (she is a nurse, lol).

I'm recomping right now...maybe it would be useful?

Really? I’m super low carb and don’t go hypo on 1500mg at a pop

Oh yea man. Worst I had ever gone hypo. Crazy. Maybe BECAUSE I ate like 300 carbs that morning after eating it? Then i went and lifted...leaving the gym I crashed hard. By the time I got home I had the sweats, was shaky and confused.
