An update pushed by Malwarebytes today for their Malwarebytes Anti-Malware product has caused a lot of problems for those who use their program. This new protection update caused mbamservice.exe to consume a lot of memory and upwards to 90% of the computer's CPU. A new update has been pushed that resolves these issues.

To resolve these issues simply start MBAM and check for new updates. The program will automatically download the new update and install it. If your computer is unresponsive, you can either terminate the mbamservice.exe process in task manager and restart Malwarebytes in order to try and download the new update. As a last resort, you can uninstall MBAM and reinstall it.

Good info thanks as I have had one Windows machine bitten by this.

Why i dont like use all thise programs they slow down everything so much, just install them ,use and delete:)

In a way I hate Windows because it tends to start so much shit in the background however Malwarebytes is a useful application along with AVG and CCleaner to keep a Windows machine relatively clean and free of nastyware.

My HP laptop running Linux (and OpenBSD) on the other hand is speedy and no malware issues.

I purchased some videos to learn how to use and install Linux. I got bored though Mindless. Tried to install CentOs on my old PC.

Oh and hey pupu I just had this problem yesterday on my Wife's PC. She got an "Out of Memory" error. Malwarbytes was all screwed up and wouldn't start "web protection". I uninstalled and reinstalled and have not had the problem since. I'm gonna have to google this, where did you find this info PUPU?. Link?.

I found it. Thanks for posting this PUPU. Definitely a good thing to know so people who have malwarbytes don't freak out if they start having this issue.

Yeah I know people who don't like to use anything with "real-time protection" because it slows computers down. Some of these programs are worse than the viruses that they protect against. As long as you don't go to certain sites and browse carefully, you won't get infected. If you plan on going on shady websites don't download anything and use a sandbox.

It appears that one update to MBAM caused that problem like what your wife experienced (and I had to fix my mother's laptop as well). Running the update fixes it but if you are unable to update it removing it and getting the latest installer works.

Sometimes even good programs can go wrong. I've seen bad AV definitions for Symantec Endpoint Protection (a product common in enterprises) in the past causing major problems like BSOD's on boot for machines at work...and it was a major headache. Symantec had a fix but in many cases machines had to be reimaged. Many weeks were spent on that big problem.

Yeah I ran it the problem yesterday. Luckily I fixed it within 5 minutes. Not too big a deal, by Malwarbytes gets points off from me for this....

That's what Beta testing is for though. If they haven't fully tested the software they shouldn't release it. If you depend on certain software, especially in your case for work things like this can cause big problems.

Just like the problem with CPUs. The news broke at the begging of the month I think. Haven't read much about it but the update can make your CPU 30% slower....Plus it's been a problem since 1995 I think. Here is a link,

To be honest I haven't even read the whole thing. I love IT but certain things like this are just way too boring for me. I really think for such a big problem that has been around for so long people should get some kind of compensation. Especially since the updates actually slow your CPU down, and in that sense you aren't getting what you paid for in terms of performance. Even if your pc is wicked old, especially if it is wicked, you don't want it to go even slower.

Oh yes you got that right, and how that bad update slipped in from Symantec is beyond me. I've gotten many tickets, calls and hours spent in meetings about this and spent many weeks working with the desktop teams to get all that shit resolved so people can have working machines so that they can do their work. Such is the life of a systems admin, LOL.
