I have the Pro version and its real time blocking of malware sites is great. Used this in conjunction with AVG so had nary a virus.

Maybe not viruses in the sense but malware nowadays. Ransomware is the nastiest one as it encrypts your files and then locks you out of your computer till you pay a certain amount to get the key to unlock them.
Yes I know of ransomeware. However I haven't heard of a lot people getting infected much. I haven't had an infection in years. I think you just have to know how to browse, don't just go to any site on the internet.

Oh yes, even showed my mother how to safely browse the Internet and how to tell a phishing email from a legitimate one (if she's not sure she asks me to check). I deal with a lot of these things at my job as a systems administrator.
ALso been using Linux more than Windows at home but even Linux can get some sort of nastyware.
